Rivet Stud DIN 71803 Form B – Type BS3

BS3 is a form B ball stud with an unthreaded shank for riveting or welding, depending on the variant and application requirements. At MK Gas Springs, it is primarily used in the manufacture of brackets with ball studs for gas spring connections.

The ball fits into a compatible ball socket, while the shank provides the mounting section for attachment to a bracket or another component. When selecting a variant, check the mating dimensions of the ball and socket, the mounting dimensions and the intended fastening method.

The BS3 range includes variants based on DIN 71803 dimensions, as well as versions adapted to specific installation requirements. These may differ in ball diameter, shank diameter and length, base diameter and other installation dimensions.

BS3 Rivet Stud DIN 71803 – Dimensions and Variants

The dimensional table lists the available BS3 product codes, ball diameters, shank dimensions, base diameters and other installation dimensions. The corresponding technical drawings show the dimensions and geometry of each variant.

Products marked with an asterisk (*) have dimensions that differ from those specified in DIN 71803. Refer to the corresponding technical drawing for the dimensions and geometry of the selected variant.

When selecting a variant, check the ball diameter, shank diameter and length, and available installation space. The shank dimensions and material must be suitable for the intended riveting or welding process and the component to which the stud will be attached.

Materials and Available Versions

Standard BS3 ball studs are manufactured from 11SMnPb30 steel and supplied without a surface coating. The surface coating is applied to the assembled product after the ball stud has been riveted or welded into place.

Alternative materials are available on request to suit the application, fastening method and operating conditions.

For applications with additional requirements, we offer heat treatment, including hardening of the ball portion, on request. The material, treatment and required hardness are agreed according to the customer’s specification and the intended operating conditions.

Need Help Selecting or Customizing a BS3 Rivet Stud?

If you are unsure which BS3 variant is suitable for your application, send us the required ball diameter, shank diameter and length, installation dimensions, preferred material and quantity. Please indicate whether the stud will be riveted or welded and provide the material and dimensions of the component to which it will be attached. Include any requirements for heat treatment, ball hardness or surface coating after assembly.

MK Gas Springs manufactures ball studs to customer specifications, including designs beyond the variants shown in the catalogue. Send us a drawing, photo, dimensions and application requirements. Our team can help select a suitable standard product or assess a custom version adapted to your installation.
