Plastic Ball Socket – Type PL2
PL2 is a plastic ball socket with an internal thread and a spring retaining clip, used in gas spring assemblies and other mechanical connections requiring angular movement. It connects to a compatible ball stud with a nominal ball diameter of 10 mm. It can also be used with brackets fitted with a compatible ball stud with a nominal ball diameter of 10 mm.
The internal thread connects the socket to a gas spring rod or another threaded component. A spring retaining clip secures the ball stud in the socket while allowing angular movement within the limits of the assembled connection. When selecting a socket, check that its mating dimensions are compatible with the ball stud and allow the required movement.
All listed PL2 variants have an M6 internal thread, either formed directly in the plastic body or provided by a brass threaded insert. The technical drawings show the dimensions and construction of each variant.

All dimensions in mm. PL2 ball sockets are designed for a nominal ball diameter of 10 mm. Refer to the corresponding technical drawing for socket dimensions and tolerances.
PL2 Plastic Ball Socket – Dimensions and Variants
The dimensional table lists the available PL2 product codes, internal thread sizes and installation dimensions. The corresponding technical drawings provide the detailed dimensions needed to select a suitable variant.
When selecting a variant, check the 10 mm nominal ball diameter, M6 internal thread and installation dimension l2. Dimension l2 is measured from the centre of the ball socket to its threaded end face, as shown in the drawing. Also check the available clearance, access to the retaining clip and the required range of movement.
Materials and Available Versions
PL2 ball sockets have a PA66 GF30 body — polyamide 66 reinforced with 30% glass fibre — and a CK67 spring steel retaining clip. The listed variants differ in their thread construction, body colour and retaining clip finish:
- PL210186: black PA66 GF30 body with an M6 internal thread formed directly in the plastic body and a black zinc-plated retaining clip.
- PL210186M: black PA66 GF30 body with an M6 brass threaded insert and a black zinc-plated retaining clip.
- PL210186MG: grey PA66 GF30 body with an M6 brass threaded insert and a white zinc-plated retaining clip.
