Plastic Ball Socket – Type PL1
PL1 is a plastic ball socket with a brass threaded insert, used in gas spring assemblies and other mechanical connections requiring angular movement. It snaps onto a compatible ball stud with a nominal ball diameter of 12 mm.
The internal thread connects the socket to a gas spring rod or another threaded component. The snap-on connection retains the ball in the socket while allowing angular movement within the limits of the assembled connection. When selecting a socket, check that its mating dimensions are compatible with the ball stud and allow the required movement.
The PL1 range includes variants with M6 or M8 internal threads. The technical drawings show the dimensions and construction of each variant.

All dimensions in mm. PL1 ball sockets are designed for a nominal ball diameter of 12 mm. Refer to the corresponding technical drawing for socket opening dimensions and tolerances.
PL1 Plastic Ball Socket – Dimensions and Variants
The dimensional table lists the available PL1 product codes, internal thread sizes and installation dimensions. The corresponding technical drawings provide the detailed dimensions needed to select a suitable variant.
When selecting a variant, check the 12 mm nominal ball diameter, internal thread size and installation dimension l2. Dimension l2 is measured from the centre of the ball socket to its threaded end face, as shown in the drawing. Also check the available clearance and the required range of movement.
Materials and Available Versions
PL1 ball sockets have a PA66 GF30 body — polyamide 66 reinforced with 30% glass fibre — and a brass threaded insert. The insert provides the internal thread for connection to the gas spring or another threaded component.
The listed variants have M6 or M8 internal threads, depending on the product code. Please refer to the dimensional table and the corresponding drawing for the specifications of each variant.
