Axial Ball Socket DIN 71805 – Type BH4
BH4 is a metal axial ball socket with an internal thread, used in gas spring assemblies and other mechanical connections requiring an axial socket arrangement. It can be combined with a compatible ball stud or with one of our brackets with ball studs.
The internal thread connects the socket to a gas spring rod or another threaded component. The socket opening is aligned with the axis of the threaded shank, allowing the ball stud to be inserted from the end of the socket. An internal retaining ring holds the ball stud in place while allowing angular movement within the limits of the assembled connection.
The BH4 range uses DIN 71805 reference dimensions in an axial configuration, as shown in the technical drawings. When selecting a socket, check that its mating dimensions are compatible with the ball stud and that the installation provides sufficient clearance for the required movement.

The dimensional table lists the available BH4 product codes, nominal ball diameters, internal thread sizes and installation dimensions. The corresponding technical drawings show the dimensions and construction of each variant.
When selecting a variant, check the nominal ball diameter, internal thread size and installation dimension a. Dimension a is measured from the ball centre to the threaded end face of the socket, as shown in the drawing. For use with a bracket with a ball stud, also check the access needed for axial assembly, the available clearance and the required range of movement.
Materials and Available Versions
Standard BH4 ball sockets are manufactured from 11SMnPb30 steel with a white zinc-plated finish. Stainless steel versions are available on request, including AISI 303, AISI 304 and AISI 316.
We can manufacture ball sockets with custom dimensions, different materials and coatings tailored to customer requirements. Zinc plating can be specified to meet the required colour, coating thickness and corrosion resistance. Versions with fine-pitch or left-hand threads are also available on request. Please specify the required dimensions, material, thread and surface finish when requesting a custom ball socket.
