Angled Plastic Ball Socket – Type PL7 – Extended Version

PL7 is an extended angled plastic ball socket with a brass threaded insert and a spring retaining clip, used in gas spring assemblies and other mechanical connections requiring angular movement. It connects to a compatible ball stud with a nominal ball diameter of 10 mm and can also be used with our brackets fitted with compatible ball studs.

The internal thread connects the socket to a threaded component of the gas spring or another assembly. A spring retaining clip secures the ball stud in the socket while allowing angular movement within the limits of the assembled connection. When selecting a socket, check that its mating dimensions are compatible with the ball stud and allow the required movement.

The extended body provides a neater appearance at the connection to the gas spring cylinder. The listed variants have M6 internal threads in brass inserts and are available in 10° and 16° angled versions. These angles describe the socket geometry and do not specify the maximum range of movement of the assembled connection. The corresponding technical drawings show their dimensions and construction.

All dimensions in mm, except angles stated in degrees. PL7 extended ball sockets are designed for a nominal ball diameter of 10 mm. Height h includes the retaining clip. The stated angles describe the socket geometry, not the maximum range of movement of the assembled connection. Refer to the corresponding technical drawing for socket dimensions and tolerances.

Extended PL7 Angled Plastic Ball Socket – Dimensions and Variants

The dimensional table lists the available PL7 product codes, angles, internal thread sizes and installation dimensions. The corresponding technical drawings provide the detailed dimensions needed to check compatibility with your application.

When selecting the socket, check the 10 mm nominal ball diameter, M6 internal thread, socket angle and installation dimension l2 of 22 mm. Dimension l2 is measured from the centre of the ball socket to its threaded end face, as shown in the drawing. The overall length l1 is 32.5 mm for the 10° version and 33.5 mm for the 16° version. Both variants have a height h of 17 mm including the retaining clip.

For use with one of our brackets with a ball stud, also check the available clearance and required range of movement.

Materials and Available Versions

PL7 ball sockets have a black PA66 GF30 body — polyamide 66 reinforced with 30% glass fibre — and a brass threaded insert. The spring retaining clip is made from CK67 spring steel with a black zinc-plated finish.

The listed variants have M6 internal threads and are available in 10° and 16° versions. Please refer to the dimensional table and the corresponding drawings for their specifications.

Need Help Selecting an Extended PL7 Ball Socket?

If you are unsure whether the extended PL7 is suitable for your application, send us the nominal ball diameter, internal thread size, socket angle, installation dimensions and quantity. Please indicate whether the socket will be used with a separate ball stud or one of our brackets with a ball stud, and whether it will be fitted at the cylinder end of the gas spring. If available, include the dimensions or product code of the mating component.

Send us a drawing, photo, dimensions and application requirements. Our team can help check whether the extended PL7 is compatible with the mating component and the available installation space.
