Angled Ball Socket DIN 71805 – Type BH3
BH3 is a metal ball socket with an internal thread and a 10° relief cut, used in gas spring assemblies and other mechanical connections requiring angular movement. It can be combined with a compatible ball stud or with one of our brackets with ball studs.
The internal thread connects the socket to a gas spring rod or another threaded component. Compared with BH1, the 10° relief cut at the socket opening allows a greater range of angular movement in the ball joint. An internal retaining ring holds the ball stud in the socket. Depending on the variant, an additional safety catch provides further retention. When selecting a socket, check that its mating dimensions are compatible with the ball stud and allow the required movement.
The BH3 range is based on DIN 71805 dimensions, with the relief cut shown in the technical drawings. The 10° value specifies the relief angle, not the total articulation angle of the assembled joint. Versions with different dimensions or relief angles can also be manufactured to suit specific installation requirements.
BH3 Angled Ball Socket DIN 71805 – Dimensions and Variants
The dimensional table lists the available BH3 product codes, relief angles, nominal ball diameters, internal thread sizes and installation dimensions. The corresponding technical drawings show the dimensions and construction of each variant.
When selecting a variant, check the relief angle, nominal ball diameter, internal thread size and installation dimension a. Dimension a is measured from the ball centre to the threaded end face of the socket, as shown in the drawing. For use with a bracket with a ball stud, also check the available clearance, the orientation of the relief cut and the required range of movement.
Materials and Available Versions
Standard BH3 ball sockets are manufactured from 11SMnPb30 steel with a white zinc-plated finish. Stainless steel versions are available on request.
We can manufacture ball sockets with dimensions that differ from DIN 71805, alternative relief angles, different materials and various coatings or surface finishes to meet customer requirements. Versions with fine-pitch or left-hand threads can also be evaluated for the intended application. Please specify the required dimensions, relief angle, material and surface finish when requesting a custom ball socket.
